Graduate Studies

The School of Languages, Literacies and Translation offers graduate studies by research programmes in the fields of Bahasa Malaysia, English language and translation at the Master’s and PhD levels.
Objectives
The graduate studies programmes are offered to
fulfill the nation’s aspirations of producing a knowledgeable society as well as increasing the number of intellectuals to meet the manpower needs of the nation;
provide opportunities for qualified graduates who plan to continue their studies to become individuals of high calibre in specific fields and hence able to contribute to society;
increase and advance knowledge in line with the role of a university as an institution of higher learning.
Prerequisites
Candidates for higher degree programmes must have a good Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) from Universiti Sains Malaysia or other universities that are recognized and approved by the Senate of USM.
Consideration will be given to applicants who have special skills or experiences related to the fields applied for.
Programme Structure
The Master’s and PhD programmes are offered in the research mode.
Bahasa Malaysia Requirements
In accordance with the University’s regulations, local candidates must have at least a credit in Bahasa Malaysia at the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination. (Foreign candidates are not required to fulfill this requirement.)
